Imphal, Feb 5 : Suspected militants has abducted a Manipur government official from his house in Imphal West district and demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh for his safe release, official sources said today.
Sources said suspected militants of Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) had kidnapped project officer of fisheries department H Biramani from his house at Sagolband area on February 2 at gun point.
The kidnappers had demanded payment of Rs 30 lakh by his department, they said, adding the kidnappers had threatened the family members that the official would face dire consequences if their demand was not met.
Sources close to the official's family said they (family) offered to pay Rs 5 lakh, but the militants refused to accept that as they demanded Rs 30 lakh should be given by the department concerned.
