UKLF releases worker

Imphal, June 14 : UKLF, a signatory of the trilateral suspension of operations (SoO) signed among State Government, Central Government and Kuki underground groups, released a person after taking ransom of Rs 45,000 .

Sanasam Sunil (36) s/o Thonglen of Wangoo Ahallup Awang Leikai, head mason involved in the construction of culvert under Khuga Project of IFC Department was picked up by four unknown persons identified themselves as UKLF cadres from his work site at Borayangbi Thoubal Leikai on June 10 at around 2 pm.

The outfit later demanded a ransom of Rs 1 lakh and a Nokia mobile handset to the contractor, Md Ashok (42) of Thoubal Moijing, presently residing at Borayangbi.

According to information received from the family of the contractor, the ransom amount was negotiated at Rs 45,000 and the outfit released the worker today at around 5:30 pm.

UKLF stance

Imphal, February 18 : United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) has dictated that Kuki people should not elect any person who recognises 'Any Kuki tribe' as their representative in the Assembly as well as in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election nor participate in the election campaign of such candidates.

In a statement, information and publicity secretary of the armed outfit Jacob Thadou has also asked the head of the Dept concerned or issuing authority of ST certificate not to accept or issue 'Any Kuki tribe' certificate at any cost.

Moreover, job seekers should not serve 'Any Kuki tribe' certificate and the authority concerned should not entertain such candidates, he added.
