Dimapur : The Dimapur Municipal Council has partially lifted the ban on sale of poultry products within its jurisdiction. Announcing this in a press release DMC member and co-incharge of DMC Rate Control Branch S. Vihuto Yepthomi said that “Dimapur Municipal Council has no objection for sale of poultry products within its jurisdiction.”
The ban has been relaxed in Dimapur with the resumption of sale of chicken and poultry products in the markets of Assam, which was banned following avian flu outbreak. Sale of poultry products will be allowed in Dimapur markets seeing that people of Dimapur go to Lahorijan, Assam to buy chickens and its products, the DMC added in a press note received here.
Referring to reports in newspapers about the resumption of sale of chicken in Assam and the letter issued by the government of Assam to all District Veterinary Officers of Assam on consideration for lifting the ban in Assam after taking various precautionary measures DMC has also made an appeal to the state government.
Vihuto in the press note has appealed to “Nagaland government to set some guidelines and consider lifting the ban because the people of Dimapur having easy access to Lahorijan are buying poultry from Assam which is also affecting the local market.” He said that the DMC was also facing pressure from the public.
It may be mentioned that the Dimapur Municipal Council in line with the order of the Deputy Commissioner has informed the local farmers to sale their poultry products in local markets under a strict supervision of a constituted committee headed by veterinary doctors.
