IMPHAL, Feb 3 : To win back the declining faith of the students and parents in the state government run schools, which is evident from the decline in enrollments, low grade results in annual board examinationss etc., the newly developed special category co-educational English school - the Keisamthong High School run by the department of education (s), government of Manipur, was inaugurated today by L Jayentakumar, the state education minister.
The special school developed on a trial basis by the state government with an aim to save government schools is a non-residential school and will be enrolling 40 students in each class from Class VI to X.
Speaking at the inaugural function as chief guest, L Jayentakumar said that after a thorough discussion with the education department and he himself they had decided to develop the government schools.
He further stated that in developing such special schools people`s support and participation is needed and moral education would be a priority at the school as morals are needed above education.
He also expressed the likelihood of introducing Yoga classes every week at the school and proposed that every district should have such schools. A decision on this proposal could be taken by the chief minister only, he added.
M Harekrishna, director of education(s), government of Manipur in his keynote address said that in order to give education to suit the present conditions in the state the school had been developed on a trial basis. The success in making the school possibile was not only the concerned department`s and minister`s but also for the people.
To give quality education and education to all quality infrastructure was needed, he said while adding that a common question examination of Class VIII would also be conducted in the next session in 2009.
Shambhu Singh, commissioner of education(s), government of Manipur in his presidential speech said that those students who are in 1 to 300 positions in order of merit in the board examinations for Class X and council examinations for Class XII, including Class XI, would be given small amount of monthly scholarships upto graduation level by the government of Manipur and private school recognitions will be considered under some criteria, he added.
Dr. Akhoikumar said that in present society parents must know what their children desire and keep them away from bad activities along with having emotional attachment with their children to provide education according to the changing times.
At present 34 students in Class VI, 33 in Class VII, 37 in Class VIII, 33 in Class IX and 32 in Class X have got admitted at the Keishamthong school.
Uniforms will be given at 50 percent charges, text books for Class VI to VIII will be given free and text books for Class IX and X will be subsidised.
