Imphal, Feb 8 : Agricultural land owners of Chingarel and surrounding villages have reiterated its stand of boycotting the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in case the State Government persist with the proposal to establish Industrial Growth Centre at Chingarel loukon which is located east of Waiton in Imphal East district.
In protest against the Government proposal and to remind that any attempt to take over farm lands would not be tolerated, a massive public rally was organised by Waiton Mamang Chingarel Loukon Kanba Lup along with local and State level organisations today.

The rally co-hosts included the UCM, COHR, ACTIP, MAPI Council, AMUCO, UCO, ICHAM, NIUCAMO, CCDD, Mapithel Dam Affected Chingtam Organisations and other local bodies.
While the rally kick-started from Khurai Popular High School and attempted to cross Minuthong via Lamlong Bazar police teams stopped the marchers at Lamlong Bazar after which the route was changed towards the Pangei road from Lamlong Bridge and culminated at the starting point from Khurai Khomidok point.
Congregating at Khurai Popular High School where a public meeting was held and re-adopted resolutions taken at the January 18 meeting at Tejpur Club ground.
Among others the meeting decided to organise similar campaigns at panchayat level so as to exert pressure upon the Govt to table and adopt a bill on 'Conservation of Paddy-land and Wet Land.
Moreover, State authorities have also been cautioned against persisting with the proposed Industrial Growth Centre at the specified site failing which the Lok sabha elections would be boycotted.
