Occupancy Day observed

Imphal, April 28 : THE FOURTH Occupancy Day, to remember and commemorate the British occupancy of Manipur on April 27, 1891 was observed today with a function at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal under the aegis of Occupancy Day Observance Committee.

The event was attended by Keishamthong MLA, L Ibomcha as the President while the Guests of Honour were the Deputy Director of Veterinary Department Dr S Saroj, the Principal of Standard Robert English Higher Secondary School Ph Landhoni and editor of 'Nongpok Thong' L Mangisana.

A paper prepared by Rose Mangshi Haokip on Kuki War of Independence was read out on the occasion.

A talk was delivered by Kabui Brahma Sabha President Lungpuijel Kabui on Kabui Naga Culture and Dr M Kirti has presented a talk on British War in Manipur, 1891 .

As a part of the function, a book written by L Mangisana entitled, 'Haokha-Lokkha' has also been released.

A drama, based on the British War in Manipur, was also presented during the observance programme.
