Imphal, Nov 22: The Manipur Team has won several medals at the Special Olympics National Games 2009 held at the cities of Kolkata, Mumbai and Patna.
According to Sports Director, Special Olympics Bharat Manipur Chapter, Th. Saratkumar Singh, the Manipur women`s team comprising of Y. Somolata, Y. Ibechaobi, A. Sardaluxmi and Nengneo Neishel won gold medal in bocce team event and Somolata as well as Ibechaobi won silver medals in individual bocce event.
While men`s team comprising of W. Dinesh, Kenjit, A.John and S.Milan won bronze medal in bocce team event and men`s handball team won silver medal.
Further, four football players namely A.Abung, Satjahao Haokip, Kh. Bangkim and Sominlal Kipgen have been selected for the World Summer Special Olympics to be held at Athens in 2011.
