Stringent security measures ahead of Republic Day

Imphal, January 19 : Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, the state administration has begun to take up stringent security measures in Manipur particularly in the valley districts and along the highways.

As of every year, the Republic Day will be observed in the state capital Imphal and in all the district headquarters.As a pre-emptive move to thwart any eventuality, security forces have been put on alert in vital installations and strategic points.

Manipur is one state where state based rebel groups often show up with their activities to express their feelings.Some counter insurgency operations have also been carried in this connection by the security forces in the valley areas.

The frisking activities by the security forces mostly the state police force have been intensified in the run up to the Republic Day celebrations in the state.

It is worth noting that Mention may be made that 39 permanent frisking/checking pickets at selected strategic points in greater Imphal areas have been opened sometimes back to contain any disruptive design.

Meanwhile, elaborate preparations have begun by the state government for the celebration of the Republic Day in the state where the main function will be held at 1st Manipur Rifles ground in Imphal.

State police department has been entrusted for organising march-past contingents.

Contingents ex-servicemen/CRPF/Manipur Rifles/Civil Police including women police/home guards/fire brigade/NCC (boys and girls)/ education institutions/voluntary organisations/civil departments/cultural parties/tableaux/civil band parties/forest department band and Assam Rifles Band Party.State education department (schools) has been asked to arrange six contingents from schools located in and around Imphal area.

The department has also been asked to arrange incentives to the participating institutions in the view of the prevailing law and order situation to ensure maximum participation of contingents.
