Zomi Students Appeal for completion of road construction

Churachandpur, Feb 19 : The Zomi Students` Federation, ZSF, has requested all the concerned contractors along the Lamka-Singngat-Sinzawl road being constructed under the NEC to complete their pending works of road, culvert, drainage as well as the protection walls as soon as possible.

It further urged the contractors to ensure that they start the works soon in case they have not taken up the work so far and finish it.

It may be mentioned that widening of the Guite road had been started under the NEC since the past some years but no desireable progress had been made.

While urging the officials to pressurise contractors so that they take up works immediately and finish it, the ZSF has been making appeals based on their findings during the tour they conducted in the recent past.

In a release, the ZSF further urged the PHED department to enable supply of water to all the residents of the town equally at a time when most of the students are at the threshold of writing their final examinations, particularly the Class X students.

It said some tariff had been given by the people of the town for water but some areas do not even have a water pipe so that the water could be made available.

Whie urging the PHED minister, TN Haokip to make necessary arrangements so that sufficient water supply could be made to the public, it questioned whether the consumers would really be satisfied with the messy affair. It termed the project for augmentation of Churachandpur water supply policy of the goverment as a misadventure which could not fulfill the expectations of the public.

Cautioning all NGO`s and firms and any individuals concerned to take up and fulfill any government projects by virtue of their being the implementing agency for the fullest benefit of the public, it said the ZSF would monitor all such projects in the near future and in case there were any loopholes, it said they would never hesitate to take up any course of action it deemed fit against all concerned.

The ZSF in its press release dwelt on many issues of concern and said that the impasse over the post of programme officer, ICDS Churachandpur, to be held by a competent person was a matter of great concern.

In this matter the ZSF`s appeal had been turned down time and again due to favouritism by the government, it said declaring that due to it social welfare and agriculture minister Lokendro Singh who was responsible for the whole affair would be boycotted.

His proposed inauguration of the Vangai Rnag ICDS project on February 19 would also boycotted, it declared.
