Army to patronise Manipur polo

IMPHAL, Jan 18: The GOC 57 Mountain Division today felicitated the Manipur Polo team (Sagol Kangei), who took part in the National Level Polo Championship on December 25, at Kolkata, at Leimakhong by handing over Rs. 2 lakhs cheque as a token of appreciation.

While speaking during the function the GOC 57 Mountain division DS Hooda, informed that a horse riding club would be opened in the state to which general public would be given access, adding Manipur has great potential in games and sports and he felt that the sportspersons would continue to bring laurels and honour for the state as well as the country.

He further said that the Red Shiled Division in its efforts to enhance sports potential of Manipur undertook the operation Sadbhavana project of sending the Manipur Polo team to Kolkata for National Level Polo Championship on December 25.

The team performed exceedingly well and their performance was appreciated by everyone in Kolkata.

The Lt. Gen VK Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, ADC, GOC-in-chief, Eastern Command has sent the motivational award of Rs. 2 Lakhs for the team through Red Shield Division and the cheque was handed over to the team by GOC 57 mountain division, Maj. Gen. DS Hooda to the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association in a befitting function at Leimakhong today.

The GOC has sent Colonel NS. Rajpurohit, an international horse rider of Red Shield Division to train and co-ordinate the participation of the Manipur Polo team at Kolkata.

The Red Shield Division will be instrumental in getting the Manipur polo team on the international polo road map, the GOC said.
