IMPHAL, Dec 10: The chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), Dr. Ch. Jamini Devi has said that underdevelopment is a stumbling block in the path of women`s empowerment in the state of Manipur.
She made this statement while addressing the gathering at the third foundation day of the Manipur State Commission for Women held today at Lamphelpat.
Speaking at the function, Jamini further made the observation that the women of Manipur are deprived of their primary rights despite of continuous efforts made by the commission to eradicate this social stigma.
She also stated that the commission exists only for examining cases and making recommendations to the concerned authority for effective implementation of women`s rights. She also said justice can be delivered only through law courts.
Appealing people to render cooperation and support to the commission for working effectively for the real cause of the oppressed women in the society, Jamini call for strengthening the functions of MSCW.
Member of MSCW, L. Gangte also stated that the commission has been working endlessly for the upliftment of the status of women in the state for the last three years and it will try to resolve every problem of women in the years to come.
Women should try to be self-reliant and shall avoid too much dependence on their male counterparts, she observed adding women should move forward to join the revolution for a new society free from gender biases.
The foundation day was also attended by Laaljan Begum, member MSCW, Jodhachandra Sanasam and other women rights activists of the state.
