New Delhi, Jan 18 The CBI will probe the alleged fake encounter of a Manipuri boy by the state police after the Guwahati High court ordered the case to be investigated by an "independent agency."
The agency has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by a Joint Director, to conduct the probe.
Chungkham Sanjit Singh was killed on July 23 last year and a leading social organisation of the state Apunba Lup (AL) alleged the encounter was "fake", leading to wide protests across the state.
"The case has been registered under section 302 (punishment for murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and other sections of the Arms act on January 16 at Imphal against unknown persons of Manipur police," a CBI spokesperson said.
The CBI will also investigate the death of an "unknown lady" in the same incident.
